Sophia (Sofievsky) Garlic Bulbils

$4.99

Organic, heirloom variety. Sophia Bulbils are from Ukraine, so they are very cold hardy and last a long time in storage once harvested. Please remember these are small bulbils not bulbs and need two years until they are mature. Plant the bulbils 1 to 2 inches deep in loose soil in Oct or Nov about 4 to 6 weeks before the ground freezes. The bulbils will establish roots for the spring. In the spring they will grow shoots and flower. Dig up the bulbs and cut off the stem. Let the bulb dry in a shady area until the fall and replant in the fall. The next season you will have full garlic with cloves. These can be harvested and used for cooking. Save some cloves from the strongest plants to plant in the fall for next year’s harvest. The flavor is highly regarded, with a distinct medium spicy flavor that doesn’t diminish when canned or preserved. Appox 12 bulbils in a packet. Hardy in zones 3 thru 9.
